About the author – S.A Hopkinson

Sam is a fantasy author based in the Midlands, UK. After four years of developing his craft, revisions, and an enduring love for fantastical worlds, his debut novel, Flee the Dawn, is complete. He writes the kind of stories he grew up loving—driven by characters, full of rich worlds, high stakes, and difficult choices.

From devouring series like Percy Jackson and Skullduggery Pleasant, Sam’s addiction to reading turned into a passion for writing at the age of 11, when school assignments like “Hotel Emit”—a time-travelling hotel where each door takes you to a new era—and “Ghost Mysteries”—a secret-guarded world of spirits—ignited his imagination. 500-word homework tasks turned into full short stories, and each assignment became a labour of love.

Though he chose not to pursue English at university—a decision he now considers his biggest regret—Sam never truly let go of writing. When lockdown brought the world to a halt, it offered a rare opportunity: a beautiful British summer, trapped in the house with time to spare and energy to burn. Sam revisited his passion, rediscovering his love to the craft of writing and storytelling.

Outside of writing, Sam has a love for films and television, as well as cinematic scores. To him, there is no greater source of inspiration than the immeasurable talent and creativity of other storytellers. When he’s not lost in his fictional worlds, Samuel is a football and Formula One fan, and will debate anyone on the greatest player/driver of all time!
